I love etching for its ability to communicate a broad range of drawing styles, mark making and tonal variations.

The drypoint process allows me to produce prints that effectively communicate and capture the mood and quality of my drawings.
Combining this process with collagraph techniques enables me to achieve more colour and a broader range marks and textures.

I am relatively new to polyester plate lithography - a printmaking technique that uses plastic plates instead of stone ones.
Although you cannot achieve quite as many subtle variations with marks and textures as you can on stone, it is still an interesting process with plenty of potential.
And being more stable than wooden plates (Mokulito), it allows for more prints to be made in an edition.

The catalyst for exploring woodcut was a Mokulito course I attended at East London Printmakers where I combined relief cutting and lithography processes on one plate.
Cutting a woodblock plate is a magical and rewarding process. There is also nowhere to hide.

Mokulito is a Japanese alternative printmaking process based on the principles of lithography. It uses wooden plates instead of stone ones and relies on the fact that oil and water based media repel each other.

I work with linocut when I want to achieve a certain type of print that I can’t get using intaglio or screen print. I find relief printmaking a more controlled and deliberate process than intaglio. It forces me to think and approach ideas very differently.
You can also make it a very low tech process, making it a very portable and versatile technique.
